Have I mentioned that the guys at The Asylum are my gods? I mean, I wish the actual movies were better, but still -- the marketing chutzpah simply wins my heart.

Take into account that Cloverfield is a rip-off of Blair Witch Project. The first of the "Oh-my-God-it's-so-scary-that-I-must-keep-filming" movies.

1980's Cannibal Holocaust did it before any of them as a major part of the movie was the viewing of "found footage" of a lost team of documentarians to determine what happened to them.
