Children of the Corn places a passing adult couple inside a rural community where children have violently overturned the usual order. Cornfields provide both a physical barrier and an image of something cultivated beyond ordinary control. The film turns childhood innocence into organized authority, then asks what kind of unseen power that authority serves. Watch the contrast between the children's ceremonial certainty and the adults' confused attempts to interpret a town that has stopped behaving like a town.
