A theatrical troupe visits a burial island, and its director treats the dead as props in an increasingly cruel performance. Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things makes arrogance and group humiliation central to the buildup before its zombies arrive. The performers' costumes and artificial behavior initially seem more conspicuous than the supernatural threat. That is the point of the escalation: a game designed to prove one person's control produces something nobody can direct. The cramped refuge at the end reverses the group's earlier freedom to mock the place.
