Crawlspace makes the landlord's access to a building into an instrument of terror. Private rooms are compromised by hidden routes that give one observer an advantage over the people who believe they are alone. The central performance gives this surveillance a disturbing intimacy, mixing control with a need to display and explain itself. Watch the architecture as carefully as the characters: the difference between a room, a wall and a passage is also the difference between someone else's safety and the killer's freedom.
