Doll Graveyard makes discarded playthings carriers of an unfinished past. The small scale of its antagonists changes the ordinary geography of a house: floors, shelves and blind corners become plausible routes of attack. It is useful to watch how much personality the film gives a doll through movement, sound and the timing of a reveal. A toy can seem harmless while still being easy to imagine as a watcher, which gives the premise an immediate domestic foothold.
