The Incredible Genie gives a lonely or dissatisfied child's wish the literal assistance of a supernatural companion. The useful part of a genie story is the gap between wanting a change and understanding its consequences. Watch how the film translates abstract wishes into physical comic problems, and whether friendship gradually becomes more valuable than the power to command. Family fantasy works when magic reveals the limits of a shortcut rather than simply delivering a sequence of rewards.
