The Little Vampire makes a creature of the night into a possible friend rather than an automatic enemy. Tony's connection with Rudolph turns the outsider story into an adventure about trust between children whose families inhabit different worlds. Its family audience changes the function of vampire mythology: rules become opportunities for suspense, disguise and rescue. The film works best as a contrast between everyday childhood loneliness and the extravagant problems that arrive with a supernatural companion.
