Logan's Run builds a society around a seductive promise: pleasure without old age, provided nobody asks what happens at thirty. The domed city's smooth surfaces and bright public rituals make coercion look like leisure. Logan's flight turns the science fiction chase into an encounter with neglected history, aging and an outside world that refuses the city's rules. The film is most interesting when its production design does the arguing, contrasting manufactured abundance with the disorder of things allowed to grow old.
