Monsturd takes a deliberately juvenile creature concept and follows it with the seriousness required to stage a monster movie. The joke is built into the material of the monster itself, so variation matters: surprise has to come from entrances, reactions and increasingly absurd practical problems. Its appeal belongs to viewers who enjoy the collision between earnest police and laboratory conventions and a premise designed to make those conventions undignified. Watch the construction of the gag as much as the creature costume.
