Raptor brings dinosaur danger back into enclosed laboratories and threatened communities. Its use of creature material is best judged through continuity: where is the animal in relation to its potential victim, and how do editing and reaction shots establish that relationship? The film is also a useful example of the gap between a scientific explanation and a practical monster scene. Whatever the laboratory claims to control, suspense depends on doors, sight lines, bodies and whether the next room is actually secure.
