Spoiler imagines imprisonment as control over a person's time as well as a person's movement. Its future setting gives escape a special cost: freedom and reunion may not arrive on the same timetable. That makes the science fiction premise emotionally useful rather than merely decorative. Watch the contrast between the institution's impersonal management of bodies and the prisoner's insistence on a life beyond its walls. The action gains weight when survival alone cannot return everything that has been taken.
