Steel Dawn gives a wandering swordsman a place in a community threatened by control of water and territory. Its post-apocalyptic surface carries the recognizable structure of a western: a stranger's ability to fight becomes meaningful through the people he chooses to protect. The arid landscape makes power concrete, since possession of a resource can determine whether a settlement continues to exist. Watch how silence and posture establish the hero's experience before the action explains what he can do.
