Zardoz places a brutal outsider inside an apparently privileged society whose escape from death has produced its own confinement. Its extravagant costumes, giant stone head and abrupt changes of register make the philosophy deliberately inseparable from spectacle. Watch how knowledge redistributes power: the outsider is not only an object of study, and the protected community is not as self sufficient as it believes. The film's central question is what desire and responsibility become when an elite attempts to remove ordinary human limits.
